Getting your pillow measured in Belgium: stockist or PillowScan
In Belgium, you can have your pillow measured at a Pillowise stockist, or you can work out your size yourself with PillowScan. The map on the stockists page shows which stockists are near you. We don't give a fixed list of Belgian addresses here, because the range of stockists changes and we don't want to promise you an address that may no longer exist.
Where can I get my pillow measured in Belgium?
We don't sell Pillowise through our own web shop for consumers, but through stockists. These are chiropractors, physiotherapists, sleep specialists, wellness practices and specialist retailers. There you will be measured with the Pillowise measuring tape.
First check the map to see whether a stockist is listed near you. We can't promise that there is one in every region of Belgium. Before you visit, check directly with the stockist whether and when you can get an appointment and how delivery works. The stockist sets the price. If you have any questions, you can reach us at info@pillowise.com.
What exactly is measured?
There are three measurements. They are different for every person, which is exactly why a standard size doesn't suit everyone.
| Measuring point | How it is measured |
|---|---|
| Shoulder width | around the curve of the back, with the tape not pulled tight |
| Neck circumference | once all the way around the neck |
| Neck length | from the bottom of the ear to the tip of the shoulder |
In addition, you provide two details yourself: your sleeping position (back, side or front) and your mattress (soft, medium or firm). An algorithm uses all of this together to choose the best-fitting pillow.
Why do sleeping position and mattress matter?
The right pillow height is meant to bring your head and cervical spine into as straight a line as possible. Your shoulder also needs room. How much height that takes depends on your body, your sleeping position and your mattress.
- When you sleep on your side, the gap between your head and the mattress is usually larger than when you sleep on your back. Your shoulder width matters especially here.
- A soft mattress tends to give way under the shoulder more than a firm one. This changes the height the pillow has to make up for.
- Neck circumference and neck length determine how much space there is to bridge between your head and shoulder.
To find out how to estimate the right height in general, read Calculating pillow height. How to tell that your current pillow doesn't fit is explained in Pillow too high or too low.
What if there is no stockist nearby?
Then you work out your size yourself. You can do this with PillowScan at scan.pillowise.com, on your mobile phone or via a QR code. You don't need an appointment for this. On the Measuring page you will find the measuring tool where you enter your measurements and find out your size.
If you do find a stockist later on, you can also have yourself measured there and compare the two results.
What does a made-to-measure pillow do, and what doesn't it do?
A well-fitting pillow is designed to support your head and neck at the right height while you sleep, and to leave room for your shoulder. A made-to-measure pillow is a comfort product for lying comfortably, not a medicine and not a medical device. It makes no promise of relieving symptoms.
If you regularly wake up with neck or shoulder pain, or if symptoms persist for a long time, have the cause checked by a doctor. A pillow is a comfort product and makes no promise of relieving symptoms. What we mean by “made-to-measure pillow” is explained on the Made-to-measure pillow page.
What kind of pillow will I get?
The Pillowise pillow measures 55 x 35 cm. The core is 100% memory foam and is made in the Netherlands by United Comfort Industries in Zevenbergen. The company has been making ergonomic sleep products in its own factory since 1990. The cover has a moisture-regulating top side made of Tencel and an underside made of polyester. You can wash it in the washing machine at 40 °C. The materials are certified to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX.
There are six sizes, each with its own colour: pink, orange, green, blue, red and purple. Every pillow comes with a 5-year guarantee. You can read the terms under Guarantee terms. You can find out more about the pillow itself under The pillow.
The method comes from physiotherapy. Thijs van der Hilst, who specialised in neck and shoulder complaints, was unable to recommend a suitable pillow to patients with neck complaints. So he developed a measuring method with three measurements. Together with United Comfort Industries, this became Pillowise.
What happens during a visit to a stockist?
- Find a stockist. Check the map on the stockists page to see what is listed near you.
- Check in advance. Ask about appointments, price and delivery. The stockist sets the price themselves.
- Get measured. Shoulder width, neck circumference and neck length are taken with the Pillowise measuring tape. Tell them your sleeping position and your mattress.
- Find out your size. The algorithm gives you the best-fitting size. You can recognise it by its colour.
- Compare. If the stockist has a display with the six pillows, you can try your size and another one for comparison.
Do you run a practice or shop in Belgium?
Then you can become a Pillowise stockist. You can register via Information for Pillowise partners. After a review, we activate your account by hand.
So: do you need to have your pillow measured at all?
If you are happy with your pillow and wake up comfortably in the morning, you don't need to change anything. A made-to-measure pillow is mainly worthwhile if you are unsure about pillow height, have already tried several pillows, or want to know which size suits your body measurements. In Belgium, the first step is to check whether there is a stockist near you. If there isn't, work out your size yourself.
